DescriptionThe goal of this study is to review the literature on machine learning (ML) and big data applications for mental health, emphasizing current research and practical implementations. To explore the field of ML in mental health, we used a scoping review process. Papers in this topic were found by searching four engineering and science research databases: 1) EI Engineering Village (Compendex and Inspec) 2) IEEE Xplore 3) Web of Science 4) ACM Database. There were 544 publications identified that focused on the use of machine learning in mental health. The literature identified application domains of detection, prediction, and remote monitoring of mental health disorders. We evaluated the articles, and data on the mental health application, machine learning approach, type of data (sensor, survey, etc.), and type of sensor.
