Ratan Khatwa
Biography
Prior to joining Boeing in Oct 2021 as Lead Strategist & Designer for Flight Deck Human Factors, Ratan Khatwa was Senior Chief Engineer - Human Factors at Honeywell Aerospace. He was the human factors design approval authority across Honeywell’s flight deck systems product portfolio. Previously he was a Honeywell Senior Fellow, and held positions with Rockwell Collins and the Royal Netherlands National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR). Khatwa has spent three decades cultivating HF into all stages of avionics product development, successfully pioneering HF process excellence and driving organizational changes. His product portfolio spans individual systems to integrated avionics solutions for Part 23, 25 & 29 flight decks. He has made significant contributions to the development of advanced flight deck systems such as EGPWS, RDR 4000 Weather Radar, Synthetic Vision Systems, TCAS, Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System, Airport Moving Maps, Uplinked Weather, Touch Screen Controls, Cursor Control Devices, etc. Khatwa was a key member of the integrated flight deck systems team for the recent development of aircraft such as Embraer E2, Gulfstream G500, Pilatus PC 24 and various avionics upgrade programs on aircraft such as such as the Airbus 300, Pilatus PC 12, Gulfstream G650 and the Leonardo AW 139. His patent portfolio (50) covers alerting, display, navigation, surveillance, and flight path management functions. He has authored more than 70 technical publications that focus on human-centered design of flight deck systems and landmark flight safety investigations that transformed global safety standards for addressing Controlled Flight Into Terrain & Approach & Landing Accident Reduction. Khatwa is Chairman of the GAMA Flight Deck Human Factors Design & Certification Working Group, past Chairman Flight Deck Design & Certification Sub-group of EASA’s Human Factors Collaborative Analysis Group, and is a member of the Flight Safety Foundation’s International Advisory Committee.
He has been recognized with the Aviation Week/Business and Commercial Aviation Vision Award, National Business Aviation Association Flight Safety Award, Honeywell Chairman’s Award and Rockwell Collins President Award. Khatwa holds a Doctorate in Aeronautical Engineering (University of Bristol, UK) and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
