SUMMARY:A Vision Inference Action Model For Shared Situational Awareness i
n Autonomous Agents: Approaches, Challenges, & Future Directions
DESCRIPTION:Lecture\n\nA Vision Inference Action Model For Shared Situatio
nal Awareness in Autonomous Agents: Approaches, Challenges, & Future Direc
tions\n\nKing, Hough, Collins\n\nAlthough there has been a recent increase
of research investment in Human Autonomy Teams (HATs), many significant t
echnical challenges and research gaps persist. Specifically, recent report
s indicate the need for shared situational awareness within HATs. Shared s
ituational awareness is a necessary precursor for essential team mechanism
s, such as communication, coordination, cooperation, cohesion, and trust.
Various modeling techniques have approached agent situational/shared aware
ness; however, these approaches have been limited to simulation environmen
ts. In order to achieve HATs in real-world contexts, agents will need to l
everage autonomous perception (e.g., vision, audition, and task knowledge)
to gain situational awareness of their environment and teammates. In this
paper, we discuss approaches toward agent shared situational awareness, c
hallenges/limitations, and review our efforts toward developing shared sit
uational awareness within our Vision Inference Action (VIA) model and idea
s for future research.\n\nTrack: Human AI Robot Teaming (HART), Human Perf
